Holding On By Our Fingertips Anthology

holdingonbyourfingertips

An anthology of science fiction and speculative stories exploring the many different reactions and experiences of people during the 24 hours leading up to the end of the world. Our base instinct is to survive, but when the end is nigh, do we simply lie down and die? Or do we celebrate our life and achievements?
Love, loss, forgiveness, revenge, or just that final goodbye…

SUNDAY POST

26 January

This is part of the weekly meme over at the Caffeinated Reviewer, where book bloggers can share the books they’ve read and share what they have got up to during the last week.
It’s been a mixed week. Ethan returned to university after the Christmas break on Monday. That gave him a week back at his lodgings to get back into the rhythm of uni life before lectures start – and he’s been settling in well. But the house always feels a bit sad and empty after he goes. At least I have the consolation that he’s not too far away and I can have a chat with him every day. Last week I got zapped by Himself’s cold, though thankfully I didn’t have it as severely as he did. More to the point, it didn’t bring on a long covid relapse for which I’m very grateful.

Don’t EVER boast about tangling with an elven clave and flying away unscathed. The nasty wretches have ways of knowing when they’re being talked about – and they’ll make you very, very sorry when they catch up with you.

Review of INDIE Ebook The Wizard’s Butler by Nathan Lowell

24 January

This is a review I wrote waaay back in March 2021, a few days before I first fell ill with Covid-19 and my life took a major left turn. I’ve since read a wonderful space opera series by Lowell, but these were my first impressions of his writing…

Review of AUDIOBOOK Wintersmith – Book 3 of the Tiffany Aching series & Book 35 of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett

21 January

I read all these books when they first came out – and then bought the audible versions for my grandson to encourage him to keep on reading – see my reviews of A Hat Full of Sky and The Shepherd’s Crown. The Nac Mac Feegle sayings, such as ‘Big Jobs’ and ‘Crivens!’ were household favourites for quite a while afterwards, but I haven’t listened to them since. And then decided to treat myself to listen to this series again – would I still enjoy it?

Castellan the Black and his Wise Draconic Tips on Life

If the pretty young queen you’ve taken wind-spinning agrees to be your mate during your mating dance, don’t immediately rush back and brag about your conquest. Queens often change their minds over such matters, particularly if you’ve proven to be a loose-lipped scale-sack

Review of NETGALLEY arc Rebel Blade – Book 3 of The Burnished City trilogy by Davinia Evans

19 January

I read and thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series, Notorious Sorcerer, which chiefly followed the fortunes of Siyon Velo after he saves a highborn young woman. I hadn’t appreciated that Rebel Blade was the third, rather than the second in the series so missed out on the pleasure of Shadow Baron. Would I find such an omission a major problem?

Review of NETGALLEY arc Lady Avely’s Guide to Lies and Charms – Book 2 of the Matronly Misadventures series by Rosalie Oaks

14 January

I’ve been increasingly turning to historical fantasies with a splash or romance – or is it historical romances with a splash of fantasy? Frankly, I’ve discovered that I don’t really care all that much so long as the magic system works and the historical era is effectively portrayed. So when I came upon this offering – I immediately requested it.
