In post-apocalyptic Maine, safety is the highest priority. Every citizen is Netted, their thoughts monitored for homicidal, lawless impulses. But being Netted can cause as many problems as it solves.

Years after everyone thought they'd died, a young family are discovered, safe and sound, living in the wilderness. As their delighted relations race to pick them up, Boyce is overwhelmed with relief that the daily battle to keep their small son, Hardy, safe has been lifted from his shoulders.

His wife, Kris, dreads returning to the settlement where she was born and raised. Her mental powers make living among others difficult, even dangerous, but even she is unprepared for the catastrophic events that follows.

Review of NETGALLEY arc Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I’m a fan of Tchaikovsky’s writing. His science fiction and fantasy novels and novellas provide impressive flexibility and range. Invariably, whatever genre or subject, he writes with wit and intelligence and I always find myself thinking about his books long after I’ve completed them. Which is why he is one of my go-to authors, as you can see from my reviews of his work. So it was a no-brainer that I’d request this intriguing offering – especially with that clever and rather dark cover.

It’s been a quieter week. Though we were all pleased and relieved to hear that Baby Stanley has come home from hospital so my nephew and his wife can begin taking care of their new son.
Ethan is off staying with one of his friends this weekend, so the house is eerily quiet. The week started cold and wet. When the rain showers came, they were drenching. But the latter part of the week has actually seen the sun, so the roof has been open at Wimbledon.
