Regarding the age-old question as to whether queens or lords have it hardest… I’ve been around longer than any other dragon alive – and I’m here to tell you that lords have a much easier time of it. Be grateful you were born male. And if you weren’t – my sincere sympathy.

It was the cover that drew me to this one, as I haven’t read anything by this author before. But I’m always up for well written historical fantasy, so I was looking forward to getting to this one.

It’s been dry for most of April, so it was a bit of a relief when today when we suddenly had a short bout of torrential rain. We gave ourselves a treat last Monday and visited Highdown Gardens, where all the lovely flower photos come from. And afterwards, we visited the Highdown Hotel where we had a delicious lunch and discussed my outline for the new novel, Strife with the Snow Witch. Once we worked out the beginning of the book, the story fell into place and I managed to complete the plot outline yesterday.

When visiting with your young grandchildren, be tolerant of their early hoarding instincts. While you may regard their collections of rocks/python skins/burnt beetles scattered across the floor as a dratted nuisance – destroying them in the name of tidiness is likely to earn you undying resentment from your own flesh and scales.

Review of NETGALLEY arc First Mage on the Moon by Cameron Johnston

1 May

Unusually, it was the title that drew me to this one. I’m obviously used to seeing plenty of Science Fiction reads focusing on travelling to the moon – but a Fantasy take on the subject? I was keen to try it.
